A low expectation day along the outflow boundary from the previous nights MCS which stretched across Oklahoma as far south as the OKC metro. During the day, the boundary slowly retreated, firing some storms which fizzled. One persisted near Woodward.
Departing Norman
After arriving in late from the night before in Northwest Kansas, I opted to sleep in and not try and make the Illinois target. It looked messy anyway, but I was really wrong. Another day of watching tornadoes on X from afar. I decided to head north on 35, but was not in a hurry.
Hanging out in Blackwell
The usual Casey’s in Blackwell was a good place to hang out for awhile. Chance joined me for awhile, and we considered heading east towards the storm over near Joplin. With that storm seemingly out of reach, we eventually headed west. Two storms had fired, one west of Woodward and another near Fairview.
As we drove towards the Fairview storm, it evaporated. We drove right under it and continued on towards the storm west of Woodward.
LP Supercell near Woodward Oklahoma
The storm west of Woodward was nearly stationary, moving less than 15 miles per hour. I was able to setup for this time lapse, which was one of my first time lapses where I took each frame with the mirrorless and stitched it together.
After this time lapse, I packed it up and headed home. I’d be back on the road soon enough.
